Android Nougat Update: When will your smartphone/tablet get it?

Though Google has announced Android 7.0 and Android 7.1 updates, there is a lot of uncertainty and confusion in the minds of smartphone owners on when the update will be rolled out in their devices. Here is an easy drop-down list to give you an idea on when your smartphone could run the delicious Nougat update:


If you own a Google Nexus device, namely the Nexus 6P or Nexus 5X, your phone will get the OTA update in December. The developer preview however is already out for the two devices as well as the Pixel C tablet. Update will bring in features like Daydream VR support, image keyboard support, A/B system updates and others.

Google has not yet announced which Android One devices will be getting the Nougat update.


Samsung is still busy grappling with the Note 7 fiasco and hence, it has not announced any dates for the latest Android update. Reports however suggest that the S7 and S7 Edge will be the privileged first to receive the update. The update will enhance Grace UX, which came into existence with the Note 7.


17 of Motorola’s smartphone will receive the update: Moto Z, Moto G (Gen4) and Moto G Plus (Gen 4) will receive the update first. Others on the list include: Moto G play (Gen 4), Moto X Pure Edition (Gen 3), Moto X Play, Moto X Style, Moto X Force, Droid Maxx 2, Droid Turbo 2, Moto Z Play, Moto Z Play Droid, Moto Z Force Droid and Moto Z Droid.


Sony’s 11 devices will be blessed with the Android Nougat goodness. The flagship phones – Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact. Other devices getting the update are Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia XA, Xperia X, Xperia XA Ultra and Xperia X Performance.



According to a tweet from HTC’s official account, it will release an update for HTC 10 in the fourth quarter of 2016 followed by One M9 and One A9.


LG’s V20 runs the Nougat update straight out of the box, however the company is mum about update for the other models.  


The company revealed during a Reddit AMA session that it is working for Android Nougat updates for its flagship models – OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2. However, there is no information regarding the update for OnePlus X.


There has been no official word from Huawei regarding the latest Android updates. However, the upcoming Mate 9 phablet is expected to run Android Nougat out of the box.


It is uncertain which devices will be getting the Nougat update but top models like Mi5 and Mi Max are top contenders.
